About

Frontiers of Discourse Studies(FDS) (Print ISSN: 3106-809X; Online ISSN: 3106-8103)  is a rigorously peer-reviewed international academic journal, formally published by Hong Kong HIEP Press. The journal is edited by Professor Li Yun from the School of Foreign Languages, South China University of Technology. The journal is dedicated to gathering and advancing cutting-edge explorations, theoretical innovations, and methodological reflections in the field of discourse studies. It is aimed at establishing an academic platform with an international perspective and capacity for interdisciplinary dialogue. FDS emphasizes the multifaceted nature of discourse studies, encouraging the application of diverse critical methods from multidisciplinary perspectives—including literature, cultural studies, history, sociology, ethnology, translation studies, communication studies, and artificial intelligence—to examine the production, dissemination, and impact of discourse in social, cultural, technological, and global interactions. The journal values systematic contributions from established scholars, supports innovative inquiries from emerging researchers, and emphasizes academic dialogue and knowledge reproduction.

Scope and Topics

Frontiers of Discourse Studies welcomes submissions in both Chinese and English. The following outlines the journal’s primary research directions, intended to help authors and readers locate the scholarly focus within each domain:

  • Discourse and Global Narratives: Examines how narratives shape international relations, transnational identities, and global issues, focusing on the discursive strategies and meaning reconstruction employed by different cultural and political actors in narrative contests.

  • Chinese Discourse Systems: Investigates contemporary Chinese discursive practices in politics, diplomacy, academia, media, and other fields, analyzing their theoretical foundations, dissemination mechanisms, and cultural logics to foster the self-awareness and innovation of Chinese academic discourse.

  • Social Culture and Discourse Production: Explores the processes of production, circulation, and reception of discourse within socio-cultural structures, focusing on its role in constructing social reality, shaping cultural memory, and mediating everyday practices.

  • Literature and Discursive Practice: Analyzes the narrative strategies, metaphorical systems, and ideological expressions of literary texts from a discourse-analytic perspective, investigating the dynamic relationship between literary discourse and its socio-historical contexts.

  • Translation and Discourse Dissemination: Examines discursive transformations, meaning reconstruction, and cultural mediation in translation activities, with attention to the interplay of discursive power and ideological intervention in cross-cultural communication.

  • New Media and Digital Discourse Criticism: Focuses on discursive forms, interaction mechanisms, and power structures within emerging media such as social media, online communities, and digital platforms, offering critical reflection on the public discourse ecology in technological environments.

  • AI-Generated Discourse Study: Explores the discursive features, ethical dilemmas, and social implications of texts generated by artificial intelligence, reflecting on the reconstitution of authority, creativity, and responsibility in human-computer interaction.

  • Discourse and Cross-Cultural Communication: Investigates discursive patterns, communicative norms, and systems of meaning across diverse cultural contexts, thereby promoting mutual understanding and intercultural learning.

  • Discourse, Power, and Identity Politics: Critically analyzes discourse as a key site for the operation of power and construction of identity, focusing on its political dimensions and practical patterns related to gender, race, class, and ethnicity.

  • New Methods in Discourse Studies: Introduces or develops new paradigms, analytical techniques, and digital tools for discourse research (e.g., corpus methods, visualization analysis, computational critical discourse analysis), thereby expanding methodological boundaries.

The journal promotes interdisciplinary perspectives and adheres to international academic standards. It does not operate with fixed thematic sections and welcomes scholarly contributions that engage with the above areas—or beyond. Furthermore, to reflect ongoing academic developments, the journal continuously accepts interviews with established scholars and academic book reviews in the field of discourse studies. The writing style and formatting requirements for such contributions are consistent with those of standard academic articles.
